Introduction

It wasn’t until the 21st century that we have gotten to discover some really wide applications of certain cells that we seemed would be a waste and never used ever again. But then even though we have realized that they can be implemented in several different ways, we still haven’t been able to get the true potential out of them. We are talking about Stem Cells. They are harvested from the day of your birth and are used to cure several diseases that you might have throughout your lifetime. Therefore, let’s take a wider and deeper look upon the treatment that follows under the application of stem cells. Let’s get started.

What are the different types of stem cells?

Although there are many that you could find, there are two types of stem cells that are given below. Therefore, take a look.

1.    Non-embryonic stem cells or adult stem cells.

Well, there is a lot of misconception about this type of stem cells as these are to be found near the region of fully mature organs or parts of the body that help in regrowth and also in repairing the particular that is affected. They are also found in the bodies of infants as well. They are mainly used in the treatment of cancer in ways of bone marrow transplant, etc.

2.    Embryonic stem cells.

Well, you could say that these are more man-made than normal because they are harvested out of growing embryos when they are three to five days old. Because of this, they happen to be harvested in a lab through the process called in-vitro fertilization. Therefore, what this method does is that it happens to give birth to other kinds of embryonic stem cells which are also known as pluripotent stem cells. They keep producing inside your body once they are placed.

They are mainly used in the application of treating extensive burn injuries, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, chronic wounds, etc.

3.    Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)

Well, the entire concept of this kind of stem cells is that scientist have taken adult stem cells and try to make it embryonic. Thus, giving way to iPSCs. Hence now they are trying to learn and recreate the different type of stem cells of our body and understand it better to literally make new organs and tissues. It helps in making researchers understand the origin of diseases much more easily and create more deadly vaccines to eliminate the threat.

4.    Amniotic fluid stem cells and cord blood stem cells.

Well, amniotic fluid also contains stem cells, but then it’s much harder to predict as to how it can be harvested and used for further medical purposes. More research needs to be put into the field.

But then for cord stem cells, there happen to be several cell banks where they freeze the umbilical cord and keep it frozen in order to preserve it for future use. It has successfully helped children who are suffering from cancer and leukaemia to be completely healed from the disease and recovery to full health.

Therefore, the above one can give you the basic and general identity about the various treatments that revolve around the subject of stem cells. Mainly in this field, there are several treatments that have been successful, but then there has been constant work in the right direction to find higher success rates and bring a better change to the world.
